KTVX ANNOUNCES NEW EVENING NEWS ANCHOR TEAM
Hunsaker and Conway named primary anchors for ABC 4 News, 4:00pm News Expansion
ABC 4, KTVX Television has named Brent Hunsaker and Kylie Conway co-anchors for the station’s evening newscasts.
A Brigham Young University graduate, Brent Hunsaker began his career over twenty years ago in Salt Lake City. He has also worked as an anchor for KGBT in Harlingen, Texas, KAKE in Wichita, Kansas, and KCTV in Kansas City, Missouri, as well as taught broadcast news as an adjunct professor at Rockhurst College in Kansas City.
Brent's reporting has taken him across the United States and around the world. He's covered two national political conventions, humanitarian airlifts from Utah to the former Soviet Republic of Georgia, and several winter and summer Olympic Games.
Brent is the recipient of many national awards for investigative and community affairs reporting, as well as numerous regional and state awards, including awards from the Utah Broadcasters Association in 1997, and the Utah Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists in 1998 and 1999. Brent received an Emmy for his work on “English Channel Swimmers from Utah”.
Hunsaker’s great-great grandfather, Abraham Hunsaker, was one of the original Mormon settlers who came to Utah in 1848. “I’d like to add some small measure to Abraham’s legacy”, said Hunsaker. “It’s an honor and obligation to serve our viewers.”
Kylie Conway joined the ABC 4 News team in 2010, anchoring ABC 4 News at 9:00 on CW30, and reporting for all evening newscasts. Kylie graduated with a BA in Broadcast Journalism from Indiana University, and studied abroad at The Spanish American Institute in Seville, Spain.
Kylie is an experienced journalist with experience anchoring and reporting at ABC22/Fox45 in Dayton, Ohio, NBC24 in Toledo, Ohio, and WKAG in Hopkinsville, KY.
Conway is thrilled with the new opportunity. “We working hard every day to become Utah’s news station…and I’m excited to play a role in the important local stories we tell.”
Current anchor Karen Carlson’s last day with the station will be December 9th. Karen is expecting her first child within a few weeks, and is returning to Los Angeles to be a stay at home Mom. “I will always love my ABC 4 family, but you never get a second chance to be a first-time mother. I want to cherish this initial time with baby and will always look fondly on my three years at KTVX-TV.”
ABC 4 News is adding additional staff to build local news coverage for our viewers. On January 9, 2012, ABC 4 News expands the 4pm news to a full hour. ABC 4 News at 4:00 was the top rated newscast in the time period in November 2011.
At 5:00p.m., ABC 4 News will have a new anchor team, Don Hudson and Kim Fischer.
Kim joins ABC 4 from KXAS-TV, the NBC owned television station in Dallas. Prior to working there, Kim worked for WOAI-TV in San Antonio. She’s also worked at KCIT-TV, Amarillo and KRBC in Abilene, Texas. Kim joins ABC4/CW30 December 12. Don Hudson currently anchors Good Morning Utah on ACBC4 and CW30.
Dan Plante will co-anchor Good Morning Utah from 430-9a.m. Dan anchored the #1 morning news in San Diego at KUSI for 11 years.
To facilitate the expansion at 4p.m., and add reporters and depth to all our local newscasts, ABC 4 will no longer produce a 9p.m. newscast on CW30. ABC 4 News at 9:00 on CW30’s last broadcast will be Friday, December 9th.
